Expectations for Sónar Tour 2012 are building up as this year the festival travels for first time to Africa, with the celebration of A Taste of Sónar in Cape Town, inside the Design Indaba, a multidisciplinary creative platform that runs a variety of projects that all campaign for a better world through creativity. Its flagship event, the Design Indaba Conference, annually brings together the world’s top designers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and now musicians for a three-day conference in Cape Town.
This year, Sónar will be responsible for the event’s finishing touch, A Taste of Sónar. At Design Indaba, Sónar will bring a flavoury appetizer of the Barcelona festival to a Cape Town audience at a sonic event, to be held at Cape Town City Hall on the 2nd of March 2012. A total of 14 performances, the lineup for the evening will feature renowned international artists of the electronica field such as Modeselektor and Byetone, two key figures in today’s German electrónica and electro music, and the french Dj Brodinski, with young South African musical talents as BLK JKS, Killer Robot, Das Kapital and Fletcher In Dub.
As one can expect from a Sónar festival, the venue for A Taste of Sónar is an important city landmark. This is particularly true of Cape Town City Hall, the venue selected for this groundbreaking event. An impressive Edwardian-style building built in 1905 that is visible from all over the city, Cape Town City Hall is where Nelson Mandela gave his first speech after being released from prison in 1990.
The African edition of Sónar also presents its famous SonarCinema, a selection of cinema and documentaries such as Finesterrae and Colour Projections, distinguished by their approximation of the musical spectrum.
A whole night of emerging musicians alongside established pioneers, cinema and experimental colour projections that will dazzle for the first time to Africa continent with a new sample of Sónar successful concept that already been in Tokyo and Sao Paulo, that has spent years bringing the most advanced music world all over the planet.
