EP Reviews

A producer whose array of musical experience can only be described as “eclectic”, Parisian artist, Yakine comes to us with a dose of understated, atmospheric Techno. From playing guitar in a band that toured all over Europe, to DJing hip-hop, Yakine found his interest in the electronic music realm by way of his brother. Inspired by this new found passion for Deep House and Techno, Yakine has developed a career that as already seen a series of releases on labels such as Esperanza and Jetaime Records. His latest piece of art features a vinyl and digital release of the four-track prize, Rise, on Spectral Sound.

The title track, Rise, features vocals from Canadian DJ/Producer James Teej, who is also part of the My Favorite Robot outfit. Rise features seductive dark vocals over reverberating percussive grooves and chilling synth stabs. For Motion lifts the atmosphere of the release with spacey effects and transitions, over a solid deep techno groove that tastefully carries listeners’ imaginations into outer space. The analog sounding bass and wide groove make it a treasure not only to the listener in the club but also in the headphones.

The next half of the EP continues Yakine’s distinct, deep style with reverb heavy grooves and stomping bass sounds. Except brings yet another irresistible dark production, while Disaster Drop finishes strong with plucky harmonies and dreamy vocal stabs. Rise features a uniting theme of spacious verbs and cerebral sounds. Spectral Sound’s four hit package includes at least one favorite for listeners of all tastes.
