EP Reviews

Germany seems to breed the best in producers and DJs the world over, not to mention the unique and forward thinking labels that these talents establish. Germany’s own, Solomun has dazzled the past seasons with his bombardment of hits that have kept people moving from Oslo to Vancouver. With his impressive Diynamic imprint, Solomun continues to shake the successful hand of production when it comes to electronic music. Often leaving his label to release music from other artists he admires, Solomun returns to fellow German label, Watergate Records. Not a stranger itself to amazing talent with highly acclaimed acts like Tiefschwartz, Tale of Us, Tennis, and Pan-Pot to name a few, Solomun’s single Kackvogel is a single release that keeps eager ears listening to Germany for inspiration.

As a teaser for his forthcoming Watergate11 Mix compilation, Solomun’s Kackvogel is a welcome addition to his already funky sets and track selections. Playing on cool piano chords and solos, Kackvogel is like sitting in a dusty Jazz club listening to the mayhem of the evening. With the fine Solomun style that has continued to progress his career, this thumping bass lined monster is tastefully executed with just the right touch of raw beats. Congo and hand drums propel the percussive groove as silky smooth Rhodes and guitar plucks season the masterpiece with attitude. Right here for the start of the summer season, the first 500 vinyl copies will be released with a full sized etching of his Watergate compilation on the b-side. Not one to be missed, definitely one to be heard, Solomun delights once again.
