Matt Tolfrey feat. Ya Kid D

Turn You Out

In anticipation of his debut LP due out on his label Leftroom in September, Matt Tolfrey gives us a pleasant sneak of his latest production and collaboration. Turn You Out features the one and only Ya Kid K from the 80’s group Technotronic who was famous for their anthem Pump Up The Jam. Having been inspired from this sound at an early age, Tolfrey called upon Ya Kid K to fulfill his production fantasy and left us with reputable release from the man in charge. With over thirty releases on his label, featuring some of the freshest artists to date, Tolfrey continues to dazzle and receive praise from his fans and highly respected peers in the industry.

Opening up the release the original mix of Turn You Out hits with crisp hats, snappy claps and an undeniable swing. Both Ya Kid K and Tolfrey’s own vocal work can be heard leaving somewhat of a personal imprint on the package. The bassline provides the backbone for Turn You Out as its automating filters open up new scenes in the flow making way to slick Rhodes and electric piano work. Along with Ya Kid K’s vocals the track promotes old school flavored new school cool. Elegant and modern, Turn You Out is a stunning teaser to what we can expect from Matt’s full length release. Leaving us with an instrumental and dub version of the track, Tolfrey ensures that this bit of music can be used to its fullest potential whilst in a DJ’s arsenal. Maintaining the legacy of his label and brand, Tolfrey brings only what others have brought to Leftroom; timeless music.
