David Keno’s imprint Keno Records has been delivering high doses of top notch producers and tracks alike. For the label’s sixteenth release we see the return of the Serbian delight, Mass Digital whom has an impressive track record on labels like BluFin and King Street. I can’t go on is a pleasant four track package with three originals and one collaborative deep remix by Jaxson and the label head himself, David Keno. Following up his own remix of Fargo on Keno just one release before this artist EP debut, Mass Digital proves his untouchable ability to compose incredibly moving and darker style of house.
Jumping into the deep, Mass Digital wastes no time with laying on the bass heavy and contagious groove that makes up the title track, I can’t go on. Funky percussion and intelligently arranged drums give way to a fat baseline and kick. The finishing layer of distorted vocals and icy synth hits complete the story of one dark groove. Jaxson & David Keno add a playful touch to the original mix with their rendition of I can’t go on. Keeping the spirit of funky percussion alive, the duo turn to a bouncy mash of reversed sounds and effects pressed together with a bass groove providing plenty of attitude.
Less clubby than the last two in the EP, Hold on head up represents a more sophisticated side of Mass Digital as his dose of serenading strings and piano harmonies adds a bit of cool class to its hypnotic formula. Going out in his traditional style, Expectation of Nothing is a techy spark of imagination and creative randomness. Unique samples breathe life into this mainly bass and perc driven beat as tastefully placed key stabs, rolling percussion, and echoing sound bits pack into one successful underground blend of dance music. Described as hi-tech melodic deep house, Mass Digital’s sound looks promising for the coming seasons as his supported work continues to be played by acclaimed DJs and producers worldwide.
