Chris Manik has become one of the biggest rising talents from New York in the past decade. His signature style has evolved from a passion to supply us with own unique twist on electronic music but always with a little touch of heart. 2010 saw his first release on Ovum, and since then he has released a long list of quality tracks on Wink’s legendary label, among many others, such as Hot Creations, Culprit, Real Tone and Off Recordings. I Got Us is another one of those quality releases, but a little more personal for M A N I K, as two of the three on this EP were the last to be made in his old studio.
The title track, I Got Us, features vocals by M A N I K himself. Chris describes this track as being a love song trapped inside of a sleazier beat, and we couldn’t agree with him more. Amber Knife carries a little different weight as the 303 heavy track stomps throughout frequent vocal stabs and harmonies. The final track on the EP is also the final track produced in M A N I K’s old studio. Weekend Is 4 Lovers again includes Chris’s vocals, on a very romantic track that was written about …falling for a girl whilst on a weekend away.
With such a strong emotional tie to this release, a lot of M A N I K’s personality and artistic energy is surely present. Not only does M A N I K allow a more personal feel to the listener, but promises that the sound from his old studio will not be forgotten, and that the new studio will bring even more.
