Maceo Plex & Jon Dasilva

Love somebody else

Any connoisseur of fine deep house knows that Ellum Audio represents a very special and elegant mark within today’s genre. More over, one half of the label’s team owners, Maceo Plex, is another name attached to what quality music means in today’s competitive market. The boss man is back reviving an unreleased disco cover remixed by legendary Hacienda DJ Jon Dasilva, and giving one astounding tribute to an unreleased Closer Musik track.  Nothing short of original, full of flair and production swagger, the Love Somebody EP continues Ellum’s passion for new school retro beats and intelligent sound design.

Maceo Plex’s first order of business is an unreleased Jon Dasilva remix of Colourblind’s cover of 1979 Jones Girls disco classic, You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else. With much enthusiasm for the track in the early 90’s, Maceo orchestrated a studio session with legendary hacienda DJ Jon Dasilva to make a newer version of the track. Collaborating with the impeccable voice of Joi Cardwell, nothing is left to want as it’s lush, warm energy and smooth retro vibes give light to Ellum’s trademarked, educated sound.

Working on his own for the second half of the record, Maceo Plex delivers Future Musik. More notes of a nostalgic producer take form as this particular work is and homage to an old favorite never released by production duo Closer Musik. Maceo’s ability to provide an unforgettable passage through sound is very relevant in this shiny blend of magic. Maceo’s vocals captivate listeners as his powerful basslines generate a concrete backbone for the track. Future Musik is a rich and compelling piece of musical assembly. Layers in the arrange see samples of lush pads and slow swinging hi-hats leading to times of irresistible groove and times of calm bliss. Maceo’s tedious production techniques continue to pay off as every release sets aside his own mark on house music’s history. Maceo Plex and Ellum Audio have much to speak of to future generations; we just hope they will enjoy it as much as we did.
