We inaugurate our Focus On for this new season with recharged batteries. As proof of this, we dive into the splendid musical nucleus of the Prenzlauer Berg district in Berlin. From here, we present news from one of those labels that dazzle the music scene. We are speaking about Souvenir Music, the Berlin label spearheaded by the brothers, Ali and Basti Schwarz, better known to the world as Tiefschwarz.
With over five years in existence, the label works under the premise that there is something more important than the parties, the plane rides, the magazine covers or the money; every great DJ is first and foremost, a great collector. They are a discoverer of music and traveler navigating their way through the ocean of new sounds. It’s this drive for sonic exploration that has amassed an impressive roster of artists counting legends like Carl Craig, Radioslave, Samim and Riton, as well as newcomers like Ziggy Kinder. These are just a few of an extended family of musical excellence.
With the debut release by Tiefschwarz, called Hey, in October 2006 under their Ichundu alias, and peaking with the release of 10 Years of Tiefschwarz, Souvenir Music’s sounds remind us of Tiefschwarz’s DJ sets, taking in moments of blissed out electronica, ethereal house, and forward thinking techno.
Souvenir Music became a home for Tiefschwarz, with a whole host of artists having released singles along the way. It has also become a home for a steady group of talented young producers, Re.You, Sante, Chris Wood & Meat, and Ruede Hagelstein.
In order to foster up the coming talent, Souvenir Music launched a digital-only label called Souvenirplus, with releases by Sebbo, Sante, and Alex Tepper, among others. Also it will be including a much anticipated, new Tiefschwarz album.
This month we enjoy four of the artists:
- Sierra Sam
- Ruede Hagelstien
