In 1986, Octad (Andrea Kalenda) started his musical journey playing as a DJ for numerous private parties in his hometown of Rome as well as many clubs around Italy. In the early days of his DJ career he explored many different genres of music such as hip hop, new beat, acid house, and house music amongst others.
After some time spent experimenting with these musical falvors, around 1993, he set his interest in Detroit and minimal techno. By the end of 1995, he finished constructing his own studio where he produced the first project for his label Voyager Records. Being a joint venture with the Rome-based record shop, Remix, and the legendary German distribution Neuton, this collaboration gave birth to the 12″ Brain Emission EP, released in January 1996.
Two years later Octad set up another techno label: Rough Recordings. During these years he worked on various projects with international artists, as well as putting out various releases alongside Italian producers and DJs. In 2005 he moved to the UK to join his friends Karel and Phiorio with the idea of starting a netlabel which was named after a brainstorming session in a London, Metroline Recordings.
One year later, Octad was involved in starting another label with Metroline Recordings label partners: Metroline Limited. These days Octad carries on his work of producing tracks and remixes for Metroline Limited alongside other labels and netlabels. With the need of a new output for techno music, he recently set up Metroline Limited’s sister imprint, Retrometro.
Truly Octad is a non-stop thinker and creator of all things music.
